The expedition
Expedition fishing, not a day charter.
Long days, changing conditions, remote reefs, and genuine shots at fish that rarely see pressure. Here is the honest picture of how these trips run.
Outer Islands fishing in Seychelles is not resort fishing, not day trips, and not something you add on to a holiday. It is expedition-style angling.
When we talk about the Outer Islands we mean the remote atolls and banks scattered hundreds of kilometres from Mahé, sitting on deep ocean edges with minimal fishing pressure and full exposure to Indian Ocean weather. There is no quick run back to port. Fishing here is dictated by conditions and decisions, not schedules.
If you are looking for comfort first and fishing second, this probably is not it. If you want honest shots at GTs, dogtooth, tuna and wild Indian Ocean fishing, read on.
This is for you if
- You value opportunity over certainty
- You are physically capable of long days on the water
- You accept that nature sets the rules
- You want honest guidance, not promises
This is not for you if
- You need guaranteed fish
- You dislike changing plans
- You prioritise comfort over experience
- You are not prepared for real effort
The route
A typical 8–10 day expedition.
Conditions write the final plan — this is the shape of the trip, departing Eden Island Marina on Mahé.
Mahé to the African Banks
Depart 15:00 from Eden Island Marina. Troll the productive channels past Silhouette and North Island for Yellowfin, Wahoo, Dorado, Sailfish and Dogtooth. Overnight steam into the northern Amirantes.
African Banks
Dawn on the drop-off. Popping for Yellowfin, jigging Dogtooth, chasing dolphins and birds pushing bait.
Remire Drop-Off
Work current lines and colour changes for Yellowfin, Wahoo, Sailfish, Dorado, GTs, Dogtooth and Amberjack.
St Joseph & D'Arros
Heavy jigging for Dogtooth, deepwater groupers, snapper and amberjack along steep reef edges.
St Joseph Lagoon & Offshore
Flats fishing in the morning for bonefish, permit, GTs and triggers. Afternoon popping for Yellowfin, Wahoo and Sailfish along the outer reef.
Poivre Atoll
Bluewater for Yellowfin, Dogtooth, Wahoo and GTs. Evening sundowners — take the dinghy ashore and sit waist-deep in the lagoon as the sun sets.
D'Arros Lagoon & Drop-Offs
Lagoon GTs and bluefin trevally; offshore Yellowfin, Dogtooth, Wahoo, Sailfish and marlin along the drop-off.
Owen Bank
Midnight departure. Fish the remote banks from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for Yellowfin, Dogtooth, Wahoo, Sails, Dorado and big Jobfish.
Overnight to Mahé
18:00 departure, arriving in Mahé around 08:00 the following morning.

A typical day
Early start. Long runs if the conditions call for it. Plans adjusted as the day develops, fishing hard when the windows open and resting when conditions dictate. Weather sometimes reshapes the plan — good trips adapt, bad trips fight it.
Gear and packing
Preparation matters more offshore. Bring proven gear rather than experiments, pack lighter than you think you need to, leave the unnecessary luxuries behind, and focus on reliability. We will talk you through a full tackle list once dates are held.
Conservation
We run strict catch-and-release with careful handling: tackle heavy enough to shorten fights, minimal air exposure for photographs, proper support under the fish, and revival into the current before release. Large breeders go back. These practices are the reason the Outer Islands remain exceptional.
